Who says that grow lights for plants don’t have to look good? The thing with grow lights for plants is that usually focus is on their performance, not so much on their appearance. So, if you care about design as well, you may have had trouble finding exactly what you were looking for. But Rousseau pendant grow light solves this issue.

I’ve been using Rousseau grow light for over 3 years now in my living room, see how it measures in key decision-making factors in the table below.

FAQ

What Color Is the Rousseau Grow Light?

Rousseau Grow Light is a full-spectrum light, perceived by the human eye as a yellow light at 4,000 K (Kelvins) . Full-spectrum light imitates natural sunlight and is as close as possible to the real thing. There are also purple grow lights in the market that consist of blue and red LEDs, but underneath them, plants are not well visible and don’t look natural, but brown; therefore, it is very hard to notice any pests, diseases, or any other possible issues with houseplants.

How Strong Is It?

Rousseau grow light is strong enough to grow houseplants that require full sun (direct sun for most of the day), like a cactus, Bird of Paradise, and Fiddle Leaf Fig. At the distance of 1 foot (30cm), it provides from 400 to 1,460 µmol/m2/s of PAR (Photosynthetic Active Radiation), depending on the beam angle.

How Can I Test the Grow Light Intensity Myself?

If you would like to test the grow light yourself, you have several options. You can buy a well-known PAR meter such as the Apogee MQ-500 PAR Meter. Or you could go for a more affordable option, such as the one I’m using in the previous image, Hydrofarm PAR meter.

But now there is another option. Did you know that you can also use your cell phone as a PAR meter? :) How cool is that? The Photone Grow Light Meter isn’t free though, but for 5-30$ (depending on how many different types of light you would like to measure) you get a full PAR meter! And you don’t have another device taking up space in your home. It’s available for both iPhone and Android users.

What Does the Rousseau Pendant Grow Bulb Come With?

Rousseau LED grow light comes with 2 cord guides, ceiling mount hardware, and a smart plug/timer. You can buy the light with or without a timer. I recommend you buy the plant light with a timer, so you can program it to go on and off when you like – just set it and forget it. ;)

How Long does Rousseau Pendant Grow Bulb Last?

Rousseau pendant grow bulbs comes with a 5-year warranty but is rated for 15 years of continuous use.

How to Set Up the Rousseau Pendant Grow Light?

Put a screw-in hook into the ceiling and use cable clips to attach the cable to the wall. You can also attach the cable to the wall using wooden cord guides that are shipped with the light.

Here’s how I did it.

You want to get as many leaves as possible under the light, regardless of whether you are growing one large or several smaller plants underneath. If you set a smaller angle (16 degrees), the light will be more focused, more narrow, but the beam will be stronger. I would recommend this if your plants are a bit further away from the light.

If your plant isn’t very compact and you are able to keep the light close to the plant (1-2 feet away maximum), i suggest setting a wider angle. The light will be somewhat weaker but it will cover most of the leaves, so they can all photosynthesize properly.

When trying to change the angle, be careful if the light has been working for a few minutes. Even though it’s an LED grow light, it can still get pretty hot!

Why You Should Trust Mr. Houseplant

I have been growing house plants for over 10 years. I have been growing house plants under grow lights for over 6 years. I owned a venus flytrap production business for several years. During that time, I grew venus flytraps under grow lights. This allowed me to learn about different types of grow lights, how to measure their intensity, how to determine the proper distance between the light and the plant, and other intricacies of growing indoor plants under grow lights.

During my houseplant career, I had the opportunity to use and test many different brands of grow lights – Rousseau, Sansi, GE, Soltech Solutions, Spider Farmer, and many other well-known and less-known grow lights.

How Mr. Houseplant Selected and Tested Products

Rousseau is one of the few grow lights with a beautiful design. As there aren’t many grow lights with a beautiful design, this was the main reason I decided to test it.

I identified the key decision making factors for grow lights and tested how the product measures in each of them: 1) brightness 2) design 3) price 4) coverage area 5) glare 6) features that set it apart from the competition 7) warranty

I tested the grow light with a PAR meter (a grow light meter) at different distances to determine the light intensity and the coverage area, and how well the light keeps its intensity at different distances. I checked whether the grow light has glare or not under different angles of the light beam. I’ve had the grow light for over 3 years and have used it every single day on my plant babies. I tested how different indoor plants react to the Rousseau pendant light, at different distances, after exposure of several weeks to several months. I also looked at features that set the product apart from its competition, such as the possibility to adjust the angle of the light beam.

Please note that using a PAR meter (a grow light meter) is the only reliable way to test grow lights.

My Opinion After Testing the Rousseau Grow Light

I love this grow light because of its power, not just because of its design that pairs perfectly with my interior. If you’re growing one big plant, you’ll find it absolutely perfect for the purpose. However, if you are looking for grow lights for plants to cover an area larger than 1.5 feet by 1.5 feet, different typed of plant lights would be better, something similar to the Spider Farmer grow light. ⠀

It is difficult to find a LED grow light among many different plant lights that is not only strong enough to keep your plants alive but also looks good. I don’t know about you, but for me, it doesn’t get much better than Rousseau pendant Grow Light. 🙂⠀

Here’s why I love it:⠀

  • Beautiful design
  • It’s very strong, so strong that you can easily grow full-sun plants underneath it; I checked this myself with a PAR meter.
  • This plant grow light has no glare, which can be a common problem with other products of this sort.
  • Ability to adjust the beam angle, which is something I haven’t seen in any other lights. This actually means that if you’re growing only one plant underneath
  • Rousseau pendant Grow Light, by turning the beam adjuster to one side, you can make the beam more focused. If you have several smaller plants underneath it, you can turn the beam adjuster to the other side and make the angle wider, so the light can cover a larger area (but is less intense).

My final take: Well-made, strong, and durable, Rousseau Light for indoor plants is designed to be a gorgeous home decor element that can take your interior to another level while helping even full-sun houseplants grow.

I rate this light with 5 stars
